i thought maybe some of us might enjoy something light-hearted to start the week off.
at dinner last night my teenage son reminded me of the last kh meeting he attended with me about a year ago.
he is a big fan of christopher hitchins and self-identifies as an atheist.

some have figured out, but i am a poster that previously used another name.
but even then i did not give many details about myself.
i barely cracked 100 posts.. but i have never done a thread to explain why i am here.
Looking forward to the next chapter.
Also had lots of very good times as a JW. The appeal of community is strong.

Hello. I thought maybe some of us might enjoy something light-hearted to start the week off.
At dinner last night my teenage son reminded me of the last KH meeting he attended with me about a year ago. He is a big fan of Christopher Hitchins and self-identifies as an atheist.
We hadn't been to a meeting in about 3 months. On the way to the meeting he was toying with the idea of offering a Watchtower comment that might "make someone think" and possibly "wake them up". I let him know that it was probably not a good idea. If it's subtle, it will be lost on the snoozing masses. It it's in-their-face radical, it will prompt an inquisition with at least a couple men in suits.
Anyway, he says something like: "I don't know Dad. I think I can come up with something." Well, the Argument from Authority stopped working on my son at least a couple years ago, so I just let the subject drop.
Midway into the WT study, my son raises his hand and, simultaneously, my blood pressure. The paragraph had something to do with science and/or evolution.
om's son: "Blah, blah, blah....when considering questions regarding the origin and variety of life it is VERY important that we use our CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS and always remain SKEPTICAL......(VERY LONG PAUSE)...."
I was glued to his every word. As soon as he said "critical thinking" I knew he was nearing the precipice. When he said "skeptical", I pictured he and I as a Kingdom Hall version of Thelma & Louise flying off the doctrinal cliff in our apostate convertible.
Anyway, back to his comment..
"...always remain skeptical.........(VERY LONG PAUSE)......
of these scientists and their unproven theories."
He hands the mic back and turns to me with the biggest sh*t-eating grin you've ever seen.
I wanted to strangle him and give him a high-five all at once.
Good times.
Sure glad we don't bother with that stuff anymore though.

i have always been been a huge stevie nicks fan even when i was a kid when she came out with rhiannon.
i dont go to many concerts but if there is a way to see her when she tours next year i will be in the audience!
it's hard for me to pick a favorite song by her but if i had to choose it would be storms.
I always kind of listened to Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac out of the corner of my ear since, as a good JW, I heard they were all a bunch of witches.
Anyway, I enjoyed the hits of Fleetwood Mac on the radio but never bought any albums. (Back when albums were actually made and dinosaurs roamed the earth.)
A few years ago, a local singer covered "Landslide" and I was very moved. I'd never really listened to the lyrics before then. Small restaurant, special occasion. (It was actually to help raise funds for someone's cancer treatment.) Anyway, like so many songs, the lyrics are somehwat ambiguous and, therefore, universal.

p.s. Nice to hear from you LRG. Echoing an earlier poster, "how've you been"?
part 3 (which is where the actual meeting begins) is finished.
it took my computer hours and hours to render and upload it!!
anyway, this is what i just posted on my youtube channel:.
marking.
i was perusing some older threads today and stumbled across a post by a former regular poster here: tall penguin.. .
she's from canada and da'd in 2005. posted here for a couple years and then stopped, but started up a blog of her own.
i remember reading a couple years ago her heartbreaking story of how close she had gotten to a young girl in her congregation and how she would likely never again have her in her life.. .
Bttt.

Hmmm, looks like I screwed up the third link. Trying again.

Anyway, without giving away any more, here are three links that tell the full story.
(Hint: It has a happy ending, but grab your Kleenex just in case.)
I doubt that Tall Penguin would ever come back here saying "look at me", but these particular chapters of her life are just so compelling I had to post them here and say "HEY EVERYBODY, LOOK AT TALL PENGUIN!!"
Wishing strength and healing to Tall Penguin and "S".
